〈第11回目の授業〉

23年間ネパール支援をし続けてこられた
垣見一雅さんに多くの質問が集まり盛り上がりました。

第11回目の授業。ネパール支援家である垣見一雅氏(OKバジ)の講演会を開催しました。『ネパールの貧困村で暮らした23年間〜村人たちから得た教訓〜』という演題に基づいて貴重なお話をしていただき学生の私たちにはとても感慨深いものがありました。
ネパールに渡ってから最初の1年は、特に言葉の壁にぶつかり、そこからどのようにして現地の村民から信頼を得ていったのか。そこには、現地の方を「尊敬する」「感謝をする」ということを心がけていたということでした。これは、以前ゼミの授業内で学んだ異文化の適応プロセスにも合致する部分があり、聞いている私たちもとても興味深く参加することができました。また、9月にネパールで行われる海外ゼミ研修がまた一段と楽しみになりました。
 今回のイベントを開催するにあたり、ご協力頂いた学校関係者の方々、そしてご参加頂いた東経大生や他大学の皆様、社会人の皆様にも心から感謝しております。
来週は東経大の英語学習についてのイベントが開催します。

Today, Mr. Kazumasa Kakimi(OK Baji) came to Tokyo Keizai University for our event as a special guest. This event was divided into 2 sections. At the first section, OK Baji introduced different aspects of Nepal, and he also answered many questions about the country asked by the students. At the second section, OK Baji explained his experiences in Nepal. For example, problems that he saw in the village, and how he communicated with local people. He also explained his attitude and thinking in being a volunteer. He said "The surest way to be happy is to make others happy" was one of his motivation.

We will conduct TKU English Fair next week on July 6th.

授業報告（10週目） 垣見一雅氏（OKバジ）ネパールでの活動について

〈第10回目の授業〉

新宿育ちからネパールの貧困村へのストーリーは凄まじいものでした

関先生からOKバジの詳しい説明がありました。東京生まれ新宿育ち…のOKバジさん。どうしてネパールに住み、困ってる人を助けているのでしょうか。途上国の支援をしている所を聞かれたら、ユニセフやJICAを想像すると思います。組織となって支援をしているのです。そんな中、OKバジさんは1人で活動を行っています。日本の人たちから支援金をもらって、ネパールの人々の支援をするOKバジさんは支援金をいただいた人、1人1人にに直筆で手紙を書いて送っているそうです。今回のゼミでは、組織での支援運営の大変さを聞き、改めてOKバジさんの凄さを実感しました。これは沢山の人に信頼されているからこそできる事だと思います。そして！なんと！そんなOKバジさんが6月29日に東京経済大学に来てくださいます！学生、一般の方も参加できるので是非お越しください！詳しくは、この関ゼミFacebookページに掲載されています。お待ちしております！

The 10th lesson of Professor Seki's seminar.
We were told more details about Mr. Kazumasa Kakimi (He's famous as OK Baji in Nepal) who has been supporting poor people in Nepal for the last 23 years. He, all by himself, has raised enough money to support people in need and sent handwritten letters to all  the Japanese who had donated money.

We were also discussing about the system behind the donations and what percentage actually reach the people targeted after deducting all the necessary fees and charges regarding administration transportation and other expenses.

Next week, on Thursday June 29th, we are honored to welcome Mr. Ok Baji to Tokyo Keizai University. Everyone is welcomed to come! More details about the event will be attached below and we are looking forward to meeting all of you.

Mero Sathi Project チャリティー講演会開催（垣見一雅氏）

6月29日（木）ネパール支援家でAAEE,アジア教育交流研究機構理事の垣見一雅氏（現地での呼び名OKバジ）をお迎えして、講演会を開催します。前半は、ネパールに興味を持つ方のためのネパール基礎講座、そして後半はOKバジご自身に、23年間にわたる支援活動を熱く語っていただきます。会場は東京経済大学。最寄駅はJR中央線国分寺駅。

On June 29, Mr. Kazumasa Kakimi (OK Baji in Nepal), the well-known patron of Nepal and the board member of AAEE, Asian Educational Exchange & Exchange will be invited to Tokyo Keizai University, Japan. The first session of the talk will be focusing on Nepal. A session is prepared especially for those who wish to know more about the country. The second part of the talk would be exclusively based on OK Baji’s 23 years of experience as a patron living in Nepal.
To know more about Nepal and OK Baji, please take the train to Kokubunji station and stop by Tokyo Keizai University for this eye-opening speech.

授業報告（９週目） タイ、ラムカムヘン大学からのスペシャルゲスト！

〈第9回目の授業〉

สวัสดี/サワディー（タイ語で "こんにちは"）

今回の授業では急遽、２名のスペシャルゲストをお迎えしました(関ゼミは急遽がとても多い笑)。タイ、バンコクにある王立ラムカムヘン大日本語学科の先生です！関先生とも深く関わりのある方々です。二年前に関ゼミはこの大学で学生交流プログラムをしたことがあります。
と言っても授業は普段通り。｢それまでの経験によって物の見方は変わる｣ということです。
このテーマについての英語の記事を元に、皆で例を出し合い議論しました。例えば、水道水。日本人の多くはは日本の水道水はの水は"飲める''という認識があり、そのまま飲むことに対し違和感を感じません。しかし、水道水が飲めない国から来た人たちの中には、それまでの生活経験から水道水の水は''綺麗ではない''というイメージがあり、日本の水道水は''飲める''と分かっていても抵抗を感じてしまう人もいるそうです。他にもたくさんの例が出され、ゲストの先生方を含めて白熱した議論となりました。

授業の最後にはタイの先生方に向けたソーラン節踊り、そしてギター生演奏にのせた歌を披露しました！喜んで頂きこちらもとっても嬉しかったです。

The ninth lesson of Seki Seminar
Do you know about Rabbit-Duck Illusion?
The rabbit-duck illusion is an ambiguous image in which a rabbit or a duck can be seen. It's a well-known optical illusion that can determine the level of creativity. Most people believe that those who can see both probably have a greater sense of creativity. I'm not sure if there is someone who can see both in our class.
During the lesson, we realized that we tend to see things differently depending on our different cultural values. For example, we found out that many people from Southeast Asia such as Thailand and Malaysia do not drink tap water in Japan even though they know it's safe to drink. In contrast, most of Japanese drink it normally. We cannot say which is good or bad but what we have learned is we have to respect and understand people with different cultural values.
Last, but not least, it was our pleasure to have two teachers from Ramkhamhaeng University, Thailand as our special guests this time. We really hope to meet the teachers and their students in Bangkok in the future.

TKU ENGLISH FAIR ～東経大の英語の全てがわかる～ を開催！！！

東京経済大学の英語・留学システムを総ざらいします！

7月6日(木)関昭典ゼミナールがTKU ENGLISH FAIR を開催します。東経大の英語の施設、制度などを本学の学生に更に知ってもらい、各々の英語力を大学生活で強くする目的です。グローバルキャリアプログラム、コトパティオ、アドバンスイングリッシュコースなどを関ゼミ生の体験談を元に紹介します。

July 6th at Tokyo Keizai university
Seki Seminar will be running an event called TKU ENGLISH FAIR. We'd like students here to know about all of the English facilities at TKU, and how they can use them to become great English speakers. You will be able to hear about the Global Career Program, Cotopatio, the Advanced English Course, and more based on Seki Seminar students' experiences.

授業報告（８週目） 元関ゼミ生、宇賀田麻美さん講演会

〈第8回目の授業〉

2009年関昭典ゼミナール1期生、社会人として英語教育の第一線で活躍中！！！

   前回は元関ゼミ生、宇賀田麻美さんの講演会を開催しました。
    宇賀田さんは関ゼミの第1期生のOGで、2009年に先生と一緒にネパールでも活躍したそうです。そこで貧困問題に興味を持ち大学卒業後はイギリスの大学院に入学しました。NTTシステムズにしばらく勤務した後、現在は株式会社レアジョブで英語教育の推進に尽力している素敵な先輩です。
    宇賀田さんからは学生時代の経験談も含めながら貴重なお話や様々なアドバイスをいただきました。中でも最も印象残ってるのは問題が現れた時に逃避しても、後からまたその問題に再び直面することになるので、問題に出くわしたらその場で解決策を考えることが大切ということです。とてもためになりました。
     講演会の後には私たちからのお礼として、ゼミ生全員でソーラン節を踊りました。衣装や最後のエンディングポーズは先生にも内緒していました。宇賀田さんも関先生もすごく驚いてくれて、サプライズ大成功でした。
最後は宇賀田さんとの食事会でさらに盛り上がりました！

It was the 8th lesson of Seki seminar.
This was a special lesson. Ms.Ugata came to our seminar to do a talk based on her experience. She was one of the first batch seminar's student who joined the trip to Nepal in 2009.
She's a highly motivated,passionate and talkative person. We were impressed by her and her experiences. It was amazing.
During her speech, she shared with us some important and useful quotes. For instance, "If I run away from problems,they come up in a different way". It means that the problems would definitely find their way back to you no matter how you avoid them.  We might face something tough in life, but don't try to escape from the situation. Instead, try to accept as much as you can and take your time to deal with them one by one.
After her talk, we went to have dinner with her.  We had really fun time.

What she shared with us was truly valuable.
Thank you so much. We appreciate it.

授業報告（７週目） 人の心や性格に文化がどのように影響を与えているか

〈第7回目の授業〉

本日の授業風景

授業のはじめに、9月のネパール研修で一緒に行動するネパールメンバーの応募倍率が10倍以上にもなっていることが紹介されました。ネパールでネパール人メンバーの選考を担当した方からは、期待のお言葉とともに「とにかく英語でのコミュニケーションがしっかりとれるようになってきてほしい」というリクエストなどが出されました。ゼミ生全員ネパール研修に向けて英語に取り組むモチベーションが一気に上がりました。その後は先週に引き続き、人の心や性格に文化がどのように影響を与えているかを学びました。様々な国からの留学生所属している関ゼミなので、留学生ならではの体験談や母国の慣習などについても交えながら授業が展開していきました。さらに留学生同士の母国の意外な歴史的関係性について知ることができ、異文化交流をする際に、歴史を学ぶことの必要性も実感しました。授業は終わり、先生が帰った後も私たちはサブゼミを開き、来週以降に開催する様々なのイベントについて話し合いました。

It was the 7th lesson of Seki Seminar.
An alumna from TKU who used to attend the same seminar before,  joined our class today. We got some hints for job hunting and after we took some photos with her.
During the class, we learned and discussed about understanding different cultures, based on the book we got from the teacher. It was extremely interesting to talk about that issue with foreign students because we understood and shared with the group the differences of each cultures.
For example, what morals are?
In Japan, we are supposed to be quiet on the train. In the Philippines, no one should eat alone, since people must share the food. Poverty is still a serious issue in the country, one must think about those who can barely afford to buy food. These are morals. The more we discussed, the more curious we became.

From June to August, we're going to have a row of events, so now we are preparing for those. I hope things will turnout to be good.
